Self-Care is such an over-utilized and misunderstood term and people tend to not quite understand exactly what self-care actually encompasses. Simply put--self-care is any activity that you "deliberately do to take care of your mental, emotional, or physical health." (Murphy-Hiscock) Now when you add in Magic to the equation--you get a beautiful result because Magic is all about listening to the messages that the Divine and nature have for you. Magic and self-care make wonderful partners on a road to leading a more fulfilled and balanced life. The goals for self-care include: a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Integrated and whole. Self-care means that you need to consider yourself as a valuable, capable and worthwhile person who is deserving of prosperity and abundance. Self-Care is a way to maintain your health while healing your spirit and maintaining/optimizing the emotional, mental and emotional health states. Magic helps with empowering self while you exert control over your life, exercising a focus on yourself to be the best person you can be. These things are the things that resonate with the general goals of self-care. Self-care is also incremental and best given in small doses over time. Self-care "is a complicated interwoven combination of hundreds of small acts and an attitude shift." (Murphy-Hiscock) When we become so entwined in believing we have to do things a certain way and if we don't we have failed, it says something about our being and that we should feel guilty about that. But I say differently. These tasks of self-care should be given frequently and at regular intervals as to avoid burnout, fatigue, etc. Hygge is a Danish concept that focuses on enjoying the moment and being present, allowing yourself the time in the moment to hold space, acknowledging the feeling of what's happening in the present moment to fully take you over. According to Murphy-Hiscock, Hygge came about as a result of the Danes needing to cope emotionally with the long, dark winters so they came up with the Hygge as a way to deal with celebrating the little things to be present with a good cup of tea, good books, feelings of security and warmness, home-cooked foods, and the company of friends. Hygge rests on the idea of moving slowly, stressing less and consuming less commercial products. Hygge is also suggested to be an art form which is not about flashiness; but about comfort and expression, in the recognition that if you pause and allow yourself to connect to the moment, you will realize that every moment--even small--can be special because it's yours and you've recognized it as such. Part of self-care is allowing yourself to enjoy a cup of tea, without rushing to your next appointment. It's not always spending 65$ on a mani/pedi or a new outfit because if it puts you into debt or stresses you out more in the long run, it's not truly self-care. First thing to do is to identify your self-care goals. Some things that might help are creating a self-care vision board, by using a themed collection of images, quotations, and objects mounted on a flat surface and posted up in an area you see often, where you essentially end up doing short visualization exercises throughout the day every time you see it. When you create your board you should be focused on how you want things to be. Visualization is a powerful tool in self-care. Focus more on the less-tangible aspects of life. Affirmations are also helpful. If you make mistakes, be careful of your language that you use with yourself. Try using these phrases instead: 💙I am allowed to make mistakes 💜I made a decision, one among many and it is past. 💙I will try to do better next time. 💜I am right where I need to be. 💙I am enough. 💜I have the power to change myself 💙I have the power to influence the world You can also journal. Some journaling exercises: 💜Sensory Gratitude-- What sights bring you joy? What sounds bring you joy? What scents bring you joy? What tastes bring you joy? what brings you joy when you touch it? Don't censor or criticize yourself as you journal. Just experience it. 💙Seasonal Gratitude-- What are you thankful for in the Summer? Spring? Fall? Winter? 👁‍🗨Daily Gratitude--At the end of the day write these things down: Three successes which YOU define. 🤔What's stressing you? Center and ground. Think about the situations that create stress. Write them down without thought, just write. Sift them out at the end of the exercise. Don't make excuses and don't judge as you write. Don't worry about being accurate or not. Remember to take deep breaths. Some points to remember: Self-Care--if you think you're doing it wrong--you probably aren't but stop being so hard on yourself. 😜 What are some of your favorite things to do for self-care? Is God a he? a she? a light being? the creator who gave us free will to choose; however, everything is predetermined as we have come here before with a soul contract to fulfill. That is why so many of us get "stuck" and have so many issues in our lives with the same things over and over. These lessons that we keep learning over and over are because we are not fully in tune with ourselves, our "higher selves", which can help us manifest great things in our lives. So again, Who is God? We are all on the path of finding God. You could be a Buddhist, A Christian, A Wiccan, but the basis of it all resembles the same omnipotent spirit who created all. YOU need to determine who God is to you. Is God SHE? After all Gaia, Mother Earth created the planet and all living beings on it, or so we could construe as she is Mother Earth. The ALL from Kybalion and the Three Initiates (1908) is the creator that is mentioned who is one that is so powerful he does not need to intervene in our lives because once he created the energy--Cause and Effect took over and well, now we're all here today--living it up right? People like to blame God, they like blame for all of their misfortunes, when in reality--people are the cause of their own suffering and people do not like to hear that. Not one iota. However there should be solace in our suffering because when a person suffers greatly, he/she will also love inexplicably and keenly. No one likes to suffer and no one likes to think that they suffer because of what they do to themselves, but fact of the matter is, we do do things to ourselves--over and over-repeatedly--and what's even funnier is that we do it expecting different results!!! Now THAT is the definition of insanity people. wake up! But find joy in your suffering for joy comes in the morning. :) and all that pain and misery you went through was definitely not in vain. And the pain you experience, helps you aid others in relation to what you went through and you are able to help heal others by your experience of that. So keep pressing on, you're doing well. Just keep at it.
